Born to a teenage mother. Father in prison. childhood full of chaos, poverty, alcoholism, drug addiction, and sexual abuse. Fell into the lure of Men, Money, Lies & Power. Modeling, Beauty Contests, Bikini Contests, and trafficked into the world of Exotic Dancing at the age of 17, lasting 7 1/2 years. Then JESUS…set me free & made me new in January of 1994! Through God’s Call, Dreams & a Vision…Embarked on a mission on August 11, 2011 and Founded The Lion’s Beauty Queens, Inc. A ministry of God’s Unfailing Love for women caught up in the sex industry, A ministry that revolves around restoration and the Undenying Transforming Power of Jesus Christ! All Glory to HIM!

Dana is a licensed and ordained Minister through World Harvest Church and Dr. Rod Parsley and is a member of WHC Ministerial Alliance. She also holds a Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing from Graceland University, Lamoni, Iowa and is a Registered Nurse.

Additionally she is serving as an Ultrasound Nurse at Rachel House Pregnancy Resource Center.

Rocky Candillo BA, Bible & Theology~Vice President LBQ

Born in the poverty stricken urban core of Kansas City, Missouri. Raised as a fatherless child. Began attending youth service at Sheffield Family Life Center at the age of 11. God provided a way for an education from a private Christian Academy. As a young teen the call of God for ministry was clear. In 1985 graduated Central Bible College in Springfield, MO with a Bachelors Degree in Bible and Theology. Serving as a youth pastor for 9 years at Sheffield Family Life Center and served as a board member there through 2010. Currently serving as the General Manager for a financial corporation in KC. Now married 18 years to Dana McCartney-Candillo with a family of 4 children and 5 grand children.

Alison Phillips

Alison Phillips, M.S.  ~ Adjunct Instructor, Criminal Justice and Criminology

Alison has worked in a number of capacities helping the Kansas City community learn about and engage in comprehensive, evidenced based solutions to the problem of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. She is a researcher and Adjunct Instructor teaching courses on human trafficking to UMKC and Mid America Nazarene University undergraduate students. She facilitates a multi-sector community working group dedicated to ending commercial sexual exploitation in KCMO’s urban core. Previously, she acted as a consultant to help local churches develop strategic action plans for human trafficking engagement.

Alison received a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology from UMKC in 2017 and is a former airline pilot in the state of Alaska. She is foremost a wife and mother of three biological and adopted children.

Pastor Jon Purkey Founder and Lead Pastor Nexus Church

At the age of 18 Jon began his work in the ministry at Lenexa Christian Center as youth pastor. Due to his passion for the youth of the city he took their current youth group, of 200 teens and grew it to 800. It became the largest youth ministry in the state of Kansas. In 2001, Jon was awarded the “youth pastor of the year” award. After graduating high school in 1996 he served as youth pastor until 2005, and then went on to serve as a young adult pastor from 2005-2010. Meanwhile Jon studied at Berean School of the Bible from 2006-2007.  In February of 2011 Pastor Jon followed the calling that God put on his heart and started Nexus Church. Pastor Jon’s relentless passion is what drives him to take unprecedented steps of faith in his walk with Christ in order to see the unreached discover that they are sons and daughters of God, and that Christ has not only provided the salvation but, He has come to bring them hope, peace, joy, love and life extraordinary for today!

He and his wife Lisa reside in the Kansas City area with their three sons. Jonathan, Jaxon and Brixton. Nothing gets them more excited than to see individuals that have been far from God fall in love with Jesus. They are so grateful for all that God has done, but are filled with even greater vision to reach the city, nation and beyond.

Terri Cooley-Bennett ~ Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Ms. Terri Cooley- Bennett is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (MO), a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (KS), and a Co-occurring Disorders Professional-Diplomate (MO) and a Tobacco Treatment Specialist. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Missouri Western State University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas. She is experienced in homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, sexual exploitation, trauma and poverty.

Terri began her social work career working with children who were wards of the court at the Buchanan County Children’s Home. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she began her work in the inner city/urban core with children who were disadvantaged and underprivileged. Although Terri did well in her career, she struggled with some unhealthy relationships. She began searching for spiritual answers and found what she was looking for. She realized that the relationship she needed was with Christ and she rededicated her life to Him. She met the husband that God had planned for her and began praying for a vision for her life. They later became Missouri Foster and Adoptive parents for special needs children.

In 1988, Terri was called to work with the poor and homeless and in 1989 the door opened for her to begin working with women and children who were homeless at the City Union Mission. Terri began training and specializing in trauma because of the great amount of trauma she observed in the clients she worked with. She expanded her to work to women who were leaving prostitution and to women experiencing sexual exploitation. She had a private practice and worked as a contractor for many agencies (Veronica’s Voice, Metro Lutheran Ministry, ReStart, etc.) providing therapy and group therapy. In 2011, Terri was asked to help the Kansas City Rescue Mission open up a Women’s Center for women who were experiencing issues of homelessness, trauma, sexual-exploitation, addictions, and mental illness. Currently, Terri is the Outreach Supervisor at Swope Health Services and oversees the homeless program. She was an Adjunct Professor for the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare and currently provides field instruction to social work students from UMKC and the University of Kansas. She speaks and serves on the board for the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Missouri Chapter and is trained with the National NASW Office of Ethics and Professional Review. She currently is a speaker and workshop presenter for various agencies and groups including NASW Missouri Chapter, the Missouri Department of Mental Health, the Missouri Credentialing Board (credentialing Board for Substance Use Disorders Professionals) and First Call (Alcohol/Drug Prevention & Recovery).

Pastor Kelly Lohrke, Founder and Lead Pastor The Cure Church

Pastor Kelly moved his young family to Kansas City, MO in September 1993.  He was ordained and sent by his home church, Praise Chapel Christian Fellowship, Huntington Park by Pastor Michael & Donna Neville to start a church in Kansas City, Missouri.

The church had its first services with seven people at the Lohrke Home.  Shortly after that, God multiplied the church so that their home could no longer hold the growing membership.  The church moved into a building and saw their first salvation and first year Anniversary.  The first salvation is still with them serving God today.  

In 1994, the church then moved into the basement of a radio station in Kansas City, KS.  They continued to meet there until the facility became too small for the increasingly growing church.  

In 1996, the church moved into a storefront in Kansas City, KS and by 1998 had become well established with a regular attendance of approximately 100 people.  In 1999 they purchased their own property.  In 2000 they moved to this property and the church had grown to an average of over 500 people on Sunday mornings.  In 2015, the church moved to the newly acquired property located at 67th and Leavenworth Rd.

In 2006, Praise Chapel Kansas City became a Fellowship by sending out baby churches.  They now have churches in Chicago, IL, Hutchinson, KS, Nashville, TN, Liberty, MO, Wichita, KS, Lee’s Summit, MO, South Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, MO, and their most recent church plant– Lawrence, KSIn addition to these church plantstwo established works in Lima, Peru and Ashland, KY came under this fellowship in 2017.  They look forward to planting more churches in the years to come.

Pastor Kelly is a highly sought after national and international speaker.  He and his family are committed to Kansas City, KS and to The Cure.  They reside in their own home in Kansas City, KS and plan to remain with this growing dynamic church as it impacts the community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Brenda Lax – LBQ Secretary

Brenda Lax was raised in a Christian family and received Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a freshman in high school. She received her Bachelor of Science in Family Economics with a concentration in Consumer Affairs from Kansas State University. After graduation Brenda moved to Kansas City and began working for the University of Kansas Medical Center’s Nutrition Division and later was Lead Caseworker/Employment Coordinator for The Salvation Army Emergency Lodge. In December 1987 she became the Director of the Foster Grandparent Program of Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties, where she was able to expand services of the Foster Grandparent Program through increased grant funding. During her nearly 19 years in this position, she served on a national level as Regional Representative, Secretary, and President of the National Foster Grandparent Program Directors (NAFGPD). During her time as NAFGPD President she provided leadership for national advocacy for the programs and provided testimony before the House Labor/HHS/Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee. Additionally, she was selected by Senator Christopher S. Bond as a delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging. Since leaving that post she has worked as a Grant Writer for Rose Brooks Center, The Carousel Adult Day Care Center, the Kansas City Rescue Mission, The Foundry Ministries in Birmingham, Alabama, and the Lion’s Beauty Queens.

Brenda is married with one son, and is a member of Sheffield Family Life Center, where she has attended since 1987. She is active at SFLC as a leadership team member for the Women’s Ministries, works weekly with the children’s ministry, assists the youth group when needed, and facilitates a small group Bible study for women.

Dan Cotterman BA, Business Administration – Treasurer LBQ

Dan Cotterman graduated from the University of Missouri. He went into commercial banking before venturing into business management and eventually starting his own financial services company. He then worked for a non-profit organization, counseling those in financial difficulty. He and his wife bought and owned a furniture store Dan had been the bookkeeper for. After 10 years he sold the business to co-partner in two start-up businesses, one of which was a non-profit serving developmentally disabled adults, the other a real estate rental firm. He currently is a manager for a grocery store and co owns the rental firm doing all bookkeeping and taxes. Since joining his church in 1985, he has served four 3-year terms on the board and was treasurer for two of those terms. Dan currently serves on the finance committee, missions committee and teaches a Sunday school class for young adults. He has been married for 33 years and has 3 adult children and two grandsons.
